Thawan Datchani National Artist House  


Covering over 100 rai, it comprises more than 25 buildings of pure and applied northern architectural styles. Belonging to the Thai National Visual Artist Thawan Duchanee, Baandam Museum exhibits folk art of local artists from the past to the present together with a large collection of rare folk appliances from the old days. Most of the buildings are in black and elaborately decorated with woodcarvings and animal horns like buffaloes, antlers, as well as, elephant bones, etc. Baandam Museum is located at 414, Mu 13, Tambon Nang Lae. To get there: from the provincialcity of Chiang Rai, take the Chiang Rai-Mae Chan Road for 10 km. pass the Chiangrai Rajabhat University, and about 100 m from the Serm Suk Company. Then, turn left at the sign, Soi 1, the entrance to Ban Mae Pu Kha, Mu 13, for about 200 metres. The Museum is on the left-hand side. Opens daily from 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m. (Closed at 12.00-1.00 p.m.).
