Similan is a Yawi or Malay word, which means
nine or a group of nine islands. This is located in Tambon Ko Phra Thong,
Amphoe Khura Buri, occupying an area of 32,000 acres. It was declared a
national park on 1st September 1982.
One
of the best islands in Thailand named "Similan Islands" which is
listed in the world ranking of top ten of the most beautiful islands is like
underwater heaven full of beauty from colorful corals, fish and rare dolphins.
Meanwhile, beaches on the shores are surrounded by soft and delicate sand.
Everyone who has visited Similan Islands must go to Island 8 to take a photo
with sailing rock which is the symbol of Mu Koh Similan national park like it
is the important landmark to let everyone know that you have been to Mu Koh
Similan. Mu Koh Similan National Park is situated in Pang-Nga province. The
work Similan is Malaya language meaning nine. Mu Koh Similan is a small group
of islands in Andaman Sea. There are 9 islands from the north to the south
which are: 1. Koh Huyong which has the longest beach in 9 islands. It is also
the spot where sea turtles lay their eggs. 2. KohPayang 3. Koh Payan
*Surrounding areas of Island 1, 2, 3 or Koh Huyong, Koh Payang and Koh Payan
are reserved to be the place where sea turtles lay eggs. Tourists are
definitely not allowed to enter the island. 4.-5. Koh Meang which is the two
islands connected to each other. It is where the office of the National Park is
located. Rare hairy leg mountain crabs and Nicobar pigeons can be found here.
There are 2 beautiful beaches. 6. Koh Payoo 7. Koh Hua Kalok is the islands
that looks like skull. There are giant whipray, corals and underwater valley.
8. Koh Similan is the largest island. It offers both snorkeling and scuba
diving to see corals and fish. The viewpoint is sailing rock. 9. Koh Ba-ngu is
the diving area to see rocks underwater and Christmas Point rock pile. Later on
Ta Chai Island has been included in Similan Islands. Koh Ta Chai is a very
beautiful island with white sand beach suitable for swimming. Rare hairy leg
mountain crabs can also be seen here. Travelling Season Opening and closing
